WHAT: an (approx) hour long video course that walks you through the creation of these friendly-faced sculptures from beginning to end. In it I will show you my favorite techniques for building amusing characters to keep you company with very few materials! Of course, as always, you can tweak the techniques to create your own half-wit according to what tickles your funny bone.

WHY: Why not? In my 11+ years of teaching, I can’t recall a single instance where I have finished a piece from it’s bare-bones beginning to it’s fully formed finish in front of the same set of eyes. I created this course to show you the process because I know sometimes it’s hard to know where to start and when to finish. I want you to see how you can use the simplest of materials and techniques to create something you can perch on the shelf, gawk at for a good, long time, and feel so darn proud of what a beauty you created.

For reals!
ALL of you who purchase this course through November 30th will be entered to win the exact original pieces shown here along with some of my favorite goodies for art and life. I’m a bit overly excited about this part because care-package-creating is, like, one of my top five favorite past times. This box of goodies will be jam packed with all the perfect winter goodness I can stuff in it from my heart and home here in Oregon, to wherever you are.
(Yes! Even internationally!!)

Here’s a short list of supplies and materials if you would like to play along. Before you buy anything, I recommend that you watch the videos so that you can see what is optional, what alternatives I tell you about, and how you can create a similar project with very few materials.

glue of choice
(I like Liquitex matte gel)
plaster gauze
(you can purchase it here or here)
collage papers
acrylic paints in your favorite colors:

(for this project I used raw umber, titanium white, and three paints shades of craft paints in orange/peach/red.)
