Art as A Legacy (an unexpected find)

Never have I ever found such beautiful art supplies at a yard sale like I did today.
Correction: it was an estate sale.

A 97 year old woman transitioned to the spirit realm two years ago. Sometimes it takes that kind of time for those who are still living who loved her to be ready to release her treasures.

The whole experience felt touched by angels. While gently going through the art supplies, I found a large portfolio of stories and sketches. My first thought was that they felt ridiculously out of place among goods sold for a song. I had the thought to ask the lady if they were supposed to be in the sale. (She was the middle aged granddaughter of the woman who died and she was visibly tender with memories and sadness. I wanted to hug her so badly. #damncovid)

She closed her eyes and waved her hands in front of her face like “I don’t even want to look”...but she did. She opened the portfolio and started crying. These were sketches of her grandmother’s and uncle’s that she had been looking for for two years. She had no idea how they got there and she was relieved to have found them. She thanked me for bringing them to her attention and said “I wouldn’t have even bothered looking at them if they had been in a pile someone had wanted.”

Then an older couple with a giant tackle box approached me and asked me if I’m an artist. When I said yes, they said “you should have this then” and opened it to reveal gorgeous brushes and oil paints and beloved tools. I couldn’t. They insisted. I thanked them profusely. They said they were glad they got there to keep it safe until I arrived. (Who does that?!)

This is just a sampling and I keep looking at them, rearranging them, planning how to use them, and sorting which ones will be passed on to someone else who will appreciate them even more. #Imnottakingupoilpainting

Anyway, it was a sweet way to cap off a week with a lot of stuff going on in my head. #courscreationisntforsissies

I hope you have some sweetness a plenty of your own to bask in.
